LOS ANGELES (March 29, 2021) El Sativo, whose blanco was named the 2020 Tequila of the Year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, will debut an añejo and reposado in April 2021. All El Sativo tequilas are certified USDA organic, 100% Non–GMO, Kosher and Vegan friendly. Bottles will be available for purchase at Total Wine in California, Nevada, and Texas beginning mid-April, and will roll out at retail stores in additional states, listed below, in the following months. El Sativo is also available for nationwide shipping here. Tequila Añejo will retail at $49.99 for a 750ml and Tequila Reposado will retail at $44.99 for a 750ml.

 

El Sativo’s Añejo Tequila is aged for 16 months in ex-bourbon barrels, sensual and lush with mellow smoke and candied sweetness. Alternatively, the reposado is aged for nine months in ex-bourbon barrels, with warm and alluring subtle, sweet spice notes. These two types round out the product line for the acclaimed brand, originally known for pioneering their distillation to target burn off points and maintain the agave’s beneficial terpenes.

 

Committed to improving the environment, El Sativo has taken steps to build awareness, and
find remedies to help preserve the precious resources of our planet. “Translated from Spanish, El Sativo means ‘Sown in Seeds,’ as anything planted, nurtured, and grown is life,” says co-founder and spirits-industry veteran Jaime Whitton. “For every bottle sold we give back to Ocean Conservancy. As well, our bottles are made of 100% recycled, smart non-combustible glass, and have an organic soluble label that is pesticide free.”

 

El Sativo Blanco Tequila is available in California, Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Texas, and New Mexico. El Sativo Añejo & Reposado Tequilas will be available in California, Nevada, Georgia, and Texas beginning mid-April and will roll out in the following states beginning this summer: Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.

THE PROCESS

 

Like the Blanco Tequila, both the añejo and reposado are made using small batch stone ovens; the blue agaves are slowly cooked for 24-72 hours, using no diffusers nor autoclaves. The process pays homage to the art of tequila making by using the traditional technique. Fermenting with its own natural yeast, the team uses reverse osmosis water filtered through 135 feet of volcanic rock for a pure filtration process.

 

“Our distillery is located in the lowlands of Amatitán, Jalisco; we’re single estate, our agaves are planted, nurtured, and harvested solely in our fields and never sourced. It was important for us to be completely organic, so our cultivation is carried out without pesticides or fungicides, and we only use organic fertilizers. The organic certification process is far more complex and time consuming than the process for common tequila.” says co-founder Dr. Robert Summers.
