New York, NY (July 25, 2018)     With great pleasure and pride, The Last Drop Distillers, the world’s most exclusive spirits collection, announces the debut of its first Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch Whisky release: a remarkable offering comprising two Single Casks, both distilled and filled on the same day: November 19th, 1968. Guided by their expert noses and instincts, the team has spent years traveling around the world, in search of the perfect and rare dram worthy of The Last Drop name.

This unique and highly sought after bottling of this glorious Single Malt is from the celebrated Glenrothes Distillery, deep in the heart of the majestic Speyside region. Home to one of the most acclaimed Single Malt Scotch Whiskies in the world, the Glenrothes 1968 is only The Last Drop Distillers’ second Single Malt release – and the first from Speyside. The two casks have both spent their lives maturing for almost fifty years since 1968, having remained untouched until they were discovered and bottled by The Last Drop Distillers. The first has yielded just 168 bottles and the second 141 bottles, totaling only 309 bottles for the entire release. Those few, lucky enough to purchase this special release will not have a choice in which cask their bottle comes from; they will either get the single malt from cask 13504 or from cask 13508.

Single malt Scotch Whiskies are made entirely from malted barley and each cask is the result of the distillation on one date: in this case November 19th 1968. However, such is the magic and alchemy between liquid and wood, that each of these casks is distinctly different, in spite of the similarities and shared characteristics that epitomize the notes of ripe fruit, citrus, creamy vanilla and hints of exotic spice for which Glenrothes is famed.

Beanie Espey says “We are thrilled to be launching our second single malt. We have known for some time that there is a real appetite for rare casks from Glenrothes – it’s a favorite distillery for many of our fans and customers. While we remain true champions of the magic and majesty of blended Scotch Whisky, we could not turn down the opportunity to acquire these exceptional casks, and to present them within one release.”

A rare taste of the art of distilling as it was fifty years ago, the casks that make up The Last Drop’s 12th release: Glenrothes 1968 Single Malt Scotch Whisky release reveal their own characteristics, here brought to life by celebrated whisky expert, writer and educator Charles Maclean:

Single cask 13508 Speyside malt:

“A slight prickle on the nose and a complex, mellow aroma which is at once fruity and herbal – crystallised greengages, dusty dried mixed herbs – with an elusive whiff of scented smoke, a trace of cigar boxes and after a while a hint of candle wax.”
141 bottles. 50.2% ABV

With great pleasure and pride, The Last

Single cask 13504 Speyside malt:

“A mellow nose-feel, with slight prickle after a while. The highly perfumed initial aroma – scented hand-cream, attar of roses, carnations – reduces in time, infused by notes of almond oil and oak shavings, with a trace of vanilla. A drop of water enhances the wood notes.”
168 bottles. 51.8% ABV

Rebecca Jago says: “Each of the casks tastes distinctly different, while also displaying all the hallmarks of the classic Glenrothes distillery: imagine a pair of non-identical twins. We each have our favorite, but won’t be saying who prefers which one! We are truly excited to be launching this – and even more excited that we have already secured the liquid for two further releases from subsequent years.”

With only 309 sets available worldwide, of which only 50 bottles of each cask will reach North America, this 1968 Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an extremely rare bottling of two individual casks of this glorious whisky from Glenrothes . Each bottle, together with its signature 50ml miniature replica, nestles in the creamy, soft suede lining of a hand-made red leather case. Together with the miniature is a certificate of bottling and a pocket-sized tasting book with additional blank pages to write and share personal tasting notes as this exceptional Scotch Whisky is tasted.

In 2019 and 2020, two further Glenrothes releases from 1969 and 1970 will follow, completing a unique Glenrothes trilogy of wonderful whiskies.

The Last Drop Glenrothes 1968 Single Malt Scotch Release is a continuing testament to the company’s core founding principles; to seek out only the precious ‘last drops’ of some of the oldest and most exceptional spirits in existence. And while the objective is simple, it is by no means easy, as is apparent from the 50 YO Glenrothes release and each one that came before — every Last Drop offering is the result of a rigorous journey to uncover the world’s finest and rarest gems for a once in a lifetime tasting experience.

The release has an SRP of US $6,250. Details of stockists can be found at www.thelastdropdistillers.com/stockists</a>.</p>"
