Opening a bottle of your favorite beer is easier thanks to inventor William Painter.

A National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductee, he developed the crown cork, which is the pry-off and twist-off bottle cap you see on most bottled beverages today. His crown cork bottle cap sealed beverages, keeping carbonated drinks from falling flat and leaking.

But, he also developed a tool for removing the bottle caps — the bottle opener.

On National Beer Lover’s Day (Sept. 7) and National Drink a Beer Day (Sept. 28), celebrate inventor William Painter’s contributions to beer innovation!
